After over a year of constant doctor appointments, pokes, prods and consultations, the medical paperwork that has amassed is staggering. Today I scanned each paper, created them in PDF, filled out two forms required by the clinic, and sent them off. That felt SO good!! One very notable part of the process was the form which asked for characteristics we request in a donor from important to least important:
Rob: Music. Has to have a music background.
Me: Artistic.
That was a fun conversation we had this morning as we pushed the send button. Its now starting to feel like a reality. So exciting!
A few days later, in hindsight, we realized it never crossed our minds to ask for beauty or looks, healthy background, eye or skin color, intelligence or even ask for a proven donor. I think it was really telling of us that culture – our culture – engrossed in art and music is what we care about most. It never even dawned on me that Rob will be the only genetic link to this child and maybe I should just list things about me! Nope, we want musical instruments and art supplies strewn from room to room. That is who we are and what our child will have, who our child will be.
